One of the great joys of PC gaming is that you can buy games from a variety of sources. consoles like that PS5 or Xbox Series X, on the other hand, are controlled by companies that authorize and control access to all content on these platforms. The practical effect is that PC games are often discounted, with prices varying between different storefronts, including Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store.
Valve’s online Steam store has its annual summer sale running from June 23rd to July 7th, 2022. Yes, Steam has many other offerings throughout the year, but this is one of the bigger ones.
With new GPU prices finally cooling down and exciting new PC hardware launches like the excellent Steam Deck for handhelds, PC gaming is in a sweet spot right now.
I’ve collected a handful of what I consider to be remarkable offerings. All should be available for the full duration of the sale, although you should use a comparison store (using a tool like CheapShark.com) to see if other online PC game stores are offering even lower prices.
Offerings range from evergreen classics like The Sims 4 (which still have a huge audience, after all) to newer games like New World or Chivalry 2, although most are so-called mid-list games from recent years. This list focuses on games that I think are both interesting and have pretty big discounts. I will collect more tips from my colleagues in future updates.
